Description

PHO Grand Rounds:

Engaging community partners in fall prevention: Ready or not?

Falls among community-dwelling older adults continue to be a major public health issue. It is essential to develop community capacity to prevent falls and to reduce injury. Evidence-informed fall prevention practices are lacking in many community settings. In 2011, we began a Locally Driven Collaborative Project which used the Knowledge to Action framework to guide our research questions for moving fall prevention evidence into action.

We will share the results of a mixed methods study, designed to develop an understanding of community service providersknowledge of, attitudes about, and use of falls prevention practices in older adults. Participants will also learn about the perceived barriers and effective fall prevention strategies identified by a diverse range of senior-serving organizations within three different Ontario health unit regions.
